How do you if you are being ambitious or setting yourself up for failure?

there’s always the possibility of failure when you *want* something or try to *do* something. if you never wanted anything, you’d never fail. but that’s not really a great way to live. i feel that with enough time, almost all professional and academic goals can be achieved. it’s when we put ‘time limits’ on things that we can feel stressed. like that 2 pubs a months you were talking about. that’s impossible. not realistic. but if you want 20-30 pubs, well, one day you *will* have them … if you want. right?

You set yourself up for failure if you put too much pressure on yourself. There’s nothing wrong with being ambitious – that’s how you achieve your goals, by keeping them in mind… but you must also realize it’s not the end of the world if you don’t accomplish them. Take it easy and do your best… that’s all you can ever do.

I agree with Jen. Set ambitious goals, give it your all, then cut yourself some slack if you don’t quite make them or it takes longer than you’d planned.

But arent targets without hard deadlines more like wishes? On the other hand, as Syrus said “Bis interimitur qui suis armis perit”.
