This is why I dont take breaks

Stuck in a pressurized tin cylinder 33000 feet above ground, I have run out things I can do within the 5 inches of “personal” space I have. I am incapable of working in any space where I cannot spread my papers and scratch sheets around, and there is only so much Tetris I can play on my iPOD. Thank god for corporate policies that permits the use of insanely overpriced satellite internet services.

I want to apologize for yet another unannounced absence, but I am going to hold back on it till I am sure this isn’t going to be a recurring thing. Bloging, I realized is a lot like working out. You don’t do it for two days straight and its near impossible to get back to it. In the last week I have opened the blogger interface atleast a dozen times, and just couldn’t get myself to type in an entry. I drew perfect blanks. I stared at the screen for a few minutes and then just give up. I was never one for planned writing sessions. For me writing irrespective of what it is about or what kind it might be, has to be spontaneous. If I am not in my groove, the words are bland, the flow is blotchy, and in general the whole thing is a piece of crap not even worth the paper it is on.

Right now I am on my way to attend a workshop where I will learn the details of the family jewels of the company I am interning at. Needless to say they have made me sign a gazillion non disclosure documents and a whole bunch of legal papers which I didn’t understand. I could have sworn there was a mortgage application somewhere in that pile. I really didn’t mind them anyways. At the end of this workshop, the information I will have will be worth more than the net worth of half the country. I am fairly surprised that they are letting an intern gain access to such privy stuff. Some one in corporate is going to get reamed for this one day. I just know it.

Life has been unusually good to me for the last 2 weeks. I finally finished the book chapter with QoH and his advisor. I am going to call him Carleone for two reasons, one he is old and wise, and second he actually runs an academic mafia. Now I realize why he is the top ranked professor in this field. That guy is a machine. I sent him a draft of the book chapter after QoH and I had gone over it like a billion times and fixed stuff. It’s a 48 page dense document. Within a day of sending it to him, he faxed us a list of 76 things that he would like modified. Seventy fuckin six. After a week of bouncing drafts between him and QoH , I finally got them to agree on most of the issues. The manuscript is undergoing review process right now. Fingers crossed.

Ok, the stewardess is bringing out the goodies now. Time to gulp down all the peanuts and pretzels humanly possible. Adios.
