You mean they arent cyborgs?

Just when you start to think that professors are work machines designed to suck the last ounce of blood out of grad students, one of them opens up just enough to let you know that are not cyborgs. I have been reading PowerProf‘s saga for a while now. It helps me stay in touch with the fact that professors are just human irrespective of how venerable/dispecable they are. Her recent posts have got me thinking on what my professor could be going through when he is all nasty and stuff. Maybe he isnt as hard headed as I think he is. May be he is just as vulnarable to life as I am. Just may be.

Or maybe we’re nasty because we like watching students squirm ;-)

Just kidding. Like everyone else, we’ve got lives and problems. Lately mine have been overwhelming and I honestly feel like I’m not all there for my students — and it sucks for all of us.

ahh.. this is unheard of… a prof stopping by a lowly grad student’s blog… I am speechless…. I am actually without speech.

Often in the settings of academia we tend to look at each other in terms of functionality and not as a person. You are defined by what you do, and not who you are. This sucks. I am really glad that a professor is taking steps to let the world know that not everythig is picture perfect in their lives either. It brings out the compassion that is entirely missing in our system.

I hope you feel better soon, but I see it hasnt impeded your sarcism or wit. Thanks for stopping by.
