I hate Murphy, and I hate his laws. My supervisor at my internship asked me to get ONE important task done by Sunday, and that was to get some optical proof that my device works. Ok.. that doesnt sound like a problem, only that I dont have the device in the form required to optically image it. Ok, so no biggie, I can make a new set of those devices and then image it. Hmm.. there is one equipment that I need to use alteast thrice in the manufacturing process for these devices. Since my ass is on the line, that machine has to be down and it would take another 3 weeks to repair it. There is one other machine I could potentially use and alter my fabrication process to suit it, but oh I am not trained on it. Now I have a deadline breathing down my neck, no device to image, no machine to fabricate the device. Excellent.

I have asked one of the facility managers if he can train me on the new machine tomorrow. I sent him an email at 4.15 PM. Then called him at 4.40 PM and left him a voicemail. I really really really hope he agrees, else you are reading a dead man’s blog.

Blog Titles

Do you ever have a problem coming up with title for your blog entries? I do. I spent a whole of 6 minutes trying to come up with a title for my previous post, before I gave in and settled for a really lame one. I hate titles. The pressure is just too much. It has to be concise, preferably just 2-3 words. It has to reflect the contents of the post, actually more like sumarize it. It has to be interesting enough that unsuspecting viewer is enticed into actually reading the post. So many things, so few words, so much pressure! I pity the title, I really do.

Conference

So my paper got accepted to a pretty respectable conference No, I dont want to know what the reviewer was smoking when he suggested acceptance. Anyways, his review comments were very useful. So, useful I am going to reproduce it here verbatim. “This paper discusses the use of for “. Excellent! No hold on.. thats just the title with “this paper discusses” added before it. Wow.. I am blinded by the reviewers insight.

Somehow I am not excited by the news of acceptance. Maybe coz its my 5th conference paper, or more probably coz its a really crappy paper and I dont want to be the one presenting it. Ahnn.

Anyways the conference is in Ottawa, Canada this May. Does anyone know of any cool places to hang out there? Is it famous for anything other than maple syrup?

I am going to Hell

So Utah passed a legislation asking ISPs to ban access to all adult sites on an official list. Now, is it just me or do you also think this list would be a wonderful resource for us guys? Now, if I can only find a way to get them to rank each site’s “content” too. Does anyone know how to start a people intiative?

The whole Shivo thing

Ok since everyone is writing about this, why not me? I say kill the female. She is anyways dead for all practical purposes. No body movements, no speech, no cognitive functions… would someone please tell me how exactly is this person supposed to be “alive”? Atleast let her die in peace.

What really gets me going is when the Republicans and the “pro-life” idiots start yammering on about morality. Seriously? Are republicans the right people to talk about it? They will invade a poor defenseless nation for oil under the pretext of security, kill more than 100,000 civilians in the process, thats ok. But god forbid if one suffering soul needs to be put to rest. *ding* What is a “hypocrite” Alex?

11th Hour is not a good Hour

I hate it when people wait till the last minute to do something. The work is always crappy, tawrdy, and just above acceptability limits. So my father is to give a “vision” talk at a national conference on Friday, and he deciedes to wait till 11.00 PM yesterday to finish his presentation slides and sends it to me for edits. I swear, they were the most ugly, uninformative, unorganized set of slides I have ever seen, and I have seen quite a few. After yelling at him over the phone for 20 mins, I had to sit down and fix it. Took me 5 hours and 26 mins to get it done. Since, I am not the one who is going to present, I needed his input too. So basically we were on the phone for nearly 6 hours, and the fact that we live in opposite corners of the globe didnt make things easier. Anyways, the good thing is that its done. The bad thing is that my phone bill is going be longer than my phone number. I have to go get some much needed shut eye now. Hopefully tomorrow will be less frustrating. If not, could some please call the suicide hotline for me?

Now they are just screwing with me

Ok.. so I wait all day at home expecting the fedex guy to ring the bell anytime. I check on the status on their website like every 30 mins. All through the day it kept saying “Package on vehicle for delivery”. So now its 7.00 PM, and having wasted ALL day I find that fedex deceided that since they arent “due” to deliver it till tomorrow, they might as well not. All of a sudden there are numerous entries on their website tracking going back to 1.00 PM saying it wont be delivered till tomorrow afternoon!!! WHAT THE FUCK? Now I totally understand those people who walk into business establishment and start indescriminately shooting with automatic rifles. I am a day away from being one of “those”.

Stuck at home

I am stuck at home all day today waiting for the fedex guy. I am having the much needed memory for my server delievered. The one currently in the machine is reporting all kinds of wierd errors I am not able to make any sense out of.
I hate waiting. I have a billion things to do at work but I am stuck here in this stupid couch watching stupid TV. Did you know that day time TV sucked big time? All they have are talk shows discussing problems that only circus clowns have, and soap operas about multi billionares and witches. I bet if I can make even a semi-decent program schedule for the day, I can mint money.

A Productive Day

Today has been pretty good. In the last 6 hours or so, I have managed to accomplish a few things.

• Finish the rewrite of the book chapter after I got QoH’s review.
• Got up to speed on the journal I am ghost editing (actually associate editing) for QoH.
• Changed the blog’s layout. The old one sucked big time. The new one is only slightly better.
• Caught up with emails from friends.
• Did a bit of reading.

I guess thats enough work for the day. I am going to call it a night. A packed and hectic day awaits at sunrise.
